Mark your calendars, ride starts May 11, 2016. It’s early in the year, but doable. Many look at it as an early season training ride. There are no requirements or qualifying series to be done in advance. We have had many Canadians and riders from northern states successfully complete The Texas Rando Stampede(TRS) in the past.
This will be the third offering of The Texas Rando Stampede, members of Austin’s Hill Country Randonneurs will host the first overnight in Marble Falls, members of The Houston Randonneurs will host the second overnight and Lone Star Randonneurs will host the third overnight. The route starts in the flat farmland south of Dallas, and heads into the Texas Hill Country, from there we’ll pass through some cattle land and head to the East Texas Piney Wood Forests and then back to the start. With some early spring rain, the wild flowers should be in full colorful bouquets.
The TRS is logistically simple, just get yourself and your bike to the start and you should be good. We will take care of hotel reservations for the night before and after the event, and hotels, dinner, and breakfast at each overnight control. The ride is a loop starting and finishing in Waxahachie, TX which is close to both DFW Airport and Dallas Love Field (if flying Southwest). We will have a sag vehicle to help ensure no one is stranded. Riders will only need one drop bag, which will be shuttled to each overnight control. Convenience stores will be at reasonable intervals, with hours of operation and addresses noted on the Q-Sheet.
Because it is early in the year, The Texas Rando Stampede is a good choice if a rider would like to earn The RUSA American Randonneur Challenge Award, for doing two domestic 1,200 kms in a calendar year, or if a rider wanted to earn the Can-Am Award for doing one domestic and one Canadian 1,200 km in a calendar year.
In the past Camaraderie has been King, with riders riding as groups and also regrouping each morning when leaving the overnight controls.
To be added to the interested list please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org we will alert all interested parties, when information is updated. We anticipate registration to open in January 2016.
There is a The Texas Rando Stampede facebook group if you’d like to join.
The rider cap will be based on hotel rooms and beds required, but in the past has been about 50 riders.
